Small box, real computer
The Mac mini is Apple's miniature desktop. It's about the size of a sandwich box and weighs barely more than a litre of milk — but it's a full computer, and the current models are genuinely quick.
It ships without a screen, keyboard or mouse. That's the point: you plug it into the ones you already own. There's an HDMI port on the back, so a television works as a display just as well as a monitor does.
No need to bring your screen, keyboard or mouse in with it. We have our own to test on, and the mini travels easily.
What goes wrong with them
Mac minis are reliable, but they're not immune. Three faults account for most of the ones that come in.
Processor running hot
A mini has very little room for air. Dust in the vents and a tired fan push the processor into throttling, and the whole machine crawls.

Usually the drive. On the models with a Fusion Drive it's the small boot SSD that fails, and it takes the whole volume with it when it goes.

The supply is built into the case on most models. When it starts to go, the mini shuts off under load or simply refuses to wake.
